World Refugee Day
According to UNHCR, in 2012 over 45 million people were displaced from their homes, including: 15.4 million refugees; 937,000 asylum seekers; and 28.8 million internally displaced people (IDPs). On 4 December 2000, the UN General Assembly decided (through resolution 55/76) that 20 June would officially be celebrated as World Refugee Day.
National Refugee Week UK
By planning Oxford Refugee Week, we as a community hope to build locally upon inspiration from the national Refugee Week movement (a UK-wide programme of arts, cultural and educational events and activities that celebrates the contribution of refugees to the UK and promotes better understanding of why people seek sanctuary.)
